Point-Counterpoint: Wolves

For the sake of wildlife, vote 'yes' on Proposition No. 1

Study the facts.

What is the estimated wolf population of Alaska? What percentage of the population can be removed without affecting that population? How are wolf and other large predator numbers kept in check with no human interference? What percentage of the yearly wolf surplus is harvested by land and shoot? What percentage by traps? What percentage by snares? What percentage by incidental shooting?

What is a prime, properly handled wolf pelt worth in dollars? What percentage of prey species (moose, caribou, etc.) are taken by wolves? What percentage by bears? What percentage by Alaska resident hunters? What percentage by nonresident hunters? Vehicle collisions? Winter starvation and disease?

These are just a few of many questions one must know the answers to before voting on wildlife issues. If you have no idea what I am writing about, please, for the sake of our wildlife and people, vote "yes" on Ballot Measure No. 1.

I know my neighbors here on the Kenai Peninsula are more knowledgeable on this issue than more out of the way places like Anchorage. I do not intend to insult your intelligence; however, this is important to all of us.

For the sake of the human race vote, ‘No’ on Proposition No. 1 and ‘Yes’ on my Proposition.

There’s not time to study the facts.

 

I can't stand this constant political bickering and meaningless debate. Too many questions have been asked. Something has to be done now! It's time for action, i.e. double barrel-action! Yah man, you know what I mean! These vicious hell beasts have been attacking our citizens for years. How much livestock n' little red ridin' hoods do we have to lose to the ravenous pack before we get off our asses and do something?

 

We must form hunting parties and track down the wolves while they sleep. We'll go in into their lairs and smash the young whelp’s heads upon stones and wipe them out for good. Wolves breed like crazy and will soon be spreading throughout the lower 48. They must be stopped now, 'cause they can have as many as six in a litter. Humans on the other hand can only have one or maybe two children at a time. The human race is in danger, for Christ's sake!

 

That’s why we need weapons, 30-odd-6s, shot-guns, 45 mags, firepower dude. We must put firearms into the hands of every man, woman, and child in the state of Alaska. We must arm ourselves against this menace and protect all that is good. These hell hounds will stop at nothing before every single human is killed! For the sake of the human race vote ‘No’ on Proposition No. 1 and ‘Yes’ on my Proposition.
